Create your HOME page using Publisher and name it index.html

Save it to your "W" Drive on the network

Open Your Internet Browser and enter your web address: http://staff.district.spsd.org/your-user-name (Example: http://staff.district.spsd.org/ThurloJo)

You are now live on the Internet

Request through IS (email webmaster or help) that a link to your Home Page be placed on the school's website. Give your parents your direct address. Add it to your email signature.

ADD CONTENT
- Use your Publisher skills to enhance your Home Page.
- Add photos, text, clip art, and links to the "sub-pages" you create
- Add links to external sites cautiously
- Keep you web site orderly
- Avoid having to maintain it too frequently or it will become a chore and become outdated
To EDIT your page
- Open your "W" drive in My Computer
- Locate the index.html file
- Right click on it and select EDIT.
- Publisher will open the file, you modify it and as soon as you SAVE it, the changes you made are instantly on the Internet

EXPAND YOUR SITE WITH SUBPAGES

Create new pages to avoid long downloads
- Name them using a protocol (example: reading-sites.html
- Link from your Home page to your subpages and put a HOME link on all subpages
- Try to minimize "maintenance" of your site by creating content that does not require frequent updates.
- Only link to reliable external sites. For children, try to link directly to a page to avoid having them navigate.
