Learning About the Bill of Rights
Poster or Slide Show Project
Mrs. Briggs & Mrs. Rioux's 5th Grade at Kaler Elementary School |
The first 10 amendments to the Constitution became known as the "Bill of Rights." To learn about the important rights and freedoms we have from these parts of the Consitution, play the Bill of Rights Game on our web site. As you play, think of one of these that is important to you. Next, go to the Interactive Constitution and read the amendment and the explanation to better understand it. You may need to talk with someone to help you understand some hard words. Finally, begin your project.
Project: Create a slide show with PowerPoint or a poster with Publisher to show what you know and understand about the Constitutional amendment you selected.
Directions:
- After exploring the web sites above, choose one amendment in the Bill of Rights which you find interesting and important
- Make sure you have a good understanding of the rights and freedoms provided by the amendment
- Decide if you want to make a short slide show (3 slides) with PowerPoint, or 1 Page Poster in Publisher (you may be asked to do one or the other by your teacher).
- On your poster or slide show, include the following
- The title "United States Consitution" and your name.
- The subtitle "Amendment 1" (or II, III, so forth) Use Roman Numerals
- A text box in which you type the exact word from the Amendment (use the web site as a reference). Do not copy and paste!
- A text box in which you write about the amendment. Tell in your own words, in detail, what this amendment means.
- A text box in which you write about why you think this amendment is important to all Americans. Please think hard and write at least one paragraph to support your thinking.
- Decorate your product with images that represent the freedoms and rights your amendment provides. You may use the Web Search site to locate images. Be careful not to make your product too "busy" or hard to learn from.
- Improve your product with attractive fonts, borders, clip art.
- Include your name prominently.
- Include a citation to show where you learned your information. You may copy and paste the web address.
- Evaluate your work according to the expectations listed above.
- Save your product in your own special folder on the network.
- When finished, get approval from your teacher, print a color copy for your portfolio and one for your teacher. If you forget how to print in color, please ask.
- Help a friend if needed
- Enjoy free-choice time
