Web-based Multimedia

  • Searching for Kindergarten Sites (Keyword Examples: Math+Kindergarten+Shockwave)
  • Harvest Sites - how to copy the address to Word or e-mail to a computer teacher for student access
  • Evaluate sites - multimedia quality varies, connection to your program, learner control, ease of navigation, simplicity of design, appropriate audio, watch for pop-ups, avoid advertising, watch for pay sites.
  • Organizing sites - by literacy subcategories, content areas, social skills, keyboarding, mousing.
  • Publishing - building your own web site using Word, or creating a collaborative site together. Keep site graphical or use a simply number system for navigation.
  • Using - individually in the lab during "open labs," on laptops (and teacher workststation) as a Center, whole-class or small group with an interactive SmartBoard, for "homework" by sending links home. Model navigation and how to play, avoid "other links" on many site, have enrichment sites available for varied finish times, use headphones (can "Y" two on one machine).
